Sunrise Over Bootjack, California

" Sun and Fog "

Yesterday morning as the fog was creeping slowly
up to Bootjack in Mariposa County the suns rays
reflected off of the high clouds creating colorful
orange and purple colors in the sky.

An email came in from a concerned resident about the fires we have recently had in Mariposa County.
We decided this was a great message to share with all our readers.

Thanks for the timely email :-)

Re the spate of fires in wood stoves lately: I would like to point out something that I don't think is generally well known. I read somewhere that you shouldn't burn green or damp wood in an airtight stove. It seems under the right conditions steam can build up and actually blow the glass out of the door. Seems to make sense. I know that some old-timers believed that a mix of dry and green wood burned hotter than dry wood alone. Maybe it did in an open fireplace, but don't try it in an airtight stove. Haven't personally witnessed this, and I don't intend to. Have a nice day.
