Lichen Growing On Greenstone In Mariposa County

" Natures Colors "

Ruth C. of Mariposa sends in a photo of nature using lichens
to paint colors with on this Greenstone rock that was once
comprised of lava on the ocean floor but now is hundreds
of feet high in Mariposa County. Lichens can be hundreds
if not thousands of years old and they come in many
different colors and types. Here we see oranges, yellows,
greens and different shades of brown lichens.
One can even be a Lichenologist !
