Upper Yosemite Falls In The Winter

" Snow Cone "

At the bottom of the 1,400+ feet of the first drop of Yosemite Falls
a "Snow Cone" develops in the winter months as the cold
water cascades over the top of the falls some of the spray freezes in the
cold weather. This cone can reach up a few hundred feet during the
winter months and adventurous folks used to climb it with ice picks.
John Muir being one of those who wanted to peer down into the center
of the cone !
