Author Jack Laws, gave a great talk last night in Midpines about his new field guide and toward the end of the presentation he mentioned that we have to get others involved in the outdoors. Then this morning the San Francisco Chronicle has this article on the kids today and what they like to do! It definitely has little to do with being outside!

What a fantastic year it has been for the gophers! They Win! The lawn is all gone!
Holes all over the place!
Cats are fat and cannot keep up with the gophers as they turn the ground over like rototillers!
Just once why can they not bring up a little shiny nugget of gold? Or do they store it underground?
