Mariposa County History! <BR>The Old Jail in Hornitos with the church on the hill behind it. <BR>Wonder how many bad guys went from the jail to the cemetery by the church with a short diversion to a nearby hanging tree? <BR>Hornitos, California way back in the 1850's was visited by the bandit Joaquin Murieta who was seen gambling in the fandango halls before being chased out of Mariposa County! <BR>A resident of the county says that there is a place by Lake Don Pedro that is supposed to have some of  Joaquin's gold buried there! True story? Could be as they robbed a lot of Chinese Miners in the northern counties before heading south. <BR>Thanks to Tom Phillips for supplying this unique photo of the jail and the church!
