Mariposa History! <BR>The Mariposa Mine was the first hard rock mining operation in California. <BR>This is a photo by Carleton Watkins who photographed the county in 1860 <BR>(The date on the photo is wrong). This mine is located behind the Catholic Church on the hill in Mariposa. Mariposa History!
The Mariposa Mine was the first hard rock mining operation in California.
