Mariposa County History! <BR>Before Mariposa became the county seat, Aqua Fria located a few miles west of Mariposa was the first county seat. This is a Watson photograph of Aqua Fria. In the foreground is a flume that the miners built to deliver water to an area that was dry and needed water to wash the gravel so the gold could be recovered. Some of these were thousands of feet long, made out of hand cut logs before the sawmills were erected years later. <BR>Thanks to Tom Phillips for the photo.
