A year ago this week, June 27, 2008 to be exact, CalTrans held a dedication for two new temporary bridges over the Merced River on Highway 140 that replaced two other temporary bridges. With the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger giving a speech along with other dignitaries, the bridges were then opened to the public. The bridges now allow vehicles up to 45 feet where the old bridges restricted vehicles to a total length of 28 feet. Highway 140 is known as the All Weather Highway as the elevation of the highway is the lowest into Yosemite National Park. When other entrances have snow on the road during the Winter months, Highway 140 is usually open.
