Driving back from Merced on Tuesday I had to stop here at the cemetery. It sits on top of a knoll and has a 360 view of the area. It is a quiet place with only the wind rustling the leaves. The dates on the gravestones give an idea on how hard life was for the early pioneers. Many died very young, even as babies. If you were sick up here in the area, it took the doctor from Stockton two days to come see you, so you had better not be too sick. |
