There are a few structures like this in Hornitos that are slowly decaying back into the earth. The stories they hold forever forgotten. Maybe Carolyn knows a little history of this building and will fill us in on it! |

Update: Grandpa Doug is still missing, let us keep up the faith. The Merced Sun Star had a nice article on him yesterday and the Modesto Bee has the same story today. Also the Mariposa Gazette had a write up on him yesterday. Why he was up on Chowchilla Mtn.Rd. I cannot figure out. There may be more to this story than the sheriff dept. is letting on to. |

I love your photos of the historic sites Jerry---- all your photos are beautiful, I just happen to be a local history fan! I wish I did know more about this buiding----and I will be watching to see if someone can come up information on this particular remains, and also with an answer to your question about the smaller door. I am going to point some of my fellow Mariposa County History fans to this photo and see if they can provide more info.................. A researcher has just recently sent me images from his collection of old photos/postcards of Hornitos. I am preparing a webpage for them now, for the Mariposa History and Genealogy website. I will let you knwow when the page hits the net. I do think grizzy may have given the best guess/answer about the use of the smaller door! LOL
