Last Sunday the Mariposa Gem and Mineral Club had a rare opportunity to see the inside of a real working mine in Mariposa County. The Diltz Mine was one of the most productive mines in the gold district. In 1932 a 52 pound gold specimen was taken from the mine at the 100 foot level. If you would like to go on tours like this and have fun with rocks and minerals just send me an e-mail and I will forward more infromation to you. |

i don't want to join the gem & mineral club (i'm not a clubber) but i would have liked to see inside the diltz mine! you were less than 3 miles from our house. but we have never gone to the mine. i have gone inside a mine tunnel on the schroeder mine property, many years ago, with old charlie schroeder. now THAT was an experience. i'll tell you about it some day. |
