Obsidian is a black shiny glassy rock that has extremely sharp edges when broken. It is used today in surgery as it has an edge that cannot be matched by machine made tools !
Native Americans used the sharp points for arrow heads, spears, drills, scrapers and blades.
Although eruptions at the Panum Crater started more than 40,000 years ago, the most recent was only 650 years ago.
If you go there, where glasses if it is windy because of all the fine pumice and ash that is in the air can irritate your eyes, also watch your step as you do not want to fall on this sharp obsidian.
Also protect your camera lens from this abrasive dust!

Hey grizzy, I know nobody that works or does anything on a Apple. What I do know is McIntosh apples are cooking apples (I think?).
Have a great day.

here's the complete quote (you probably already had it) that you used to use part of:
> Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to
> find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a
> necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as
> fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life. -John
> Muir, naturalist, explorer, and writer (1838-1914)
