Wow ! What a day yesterday turned out to be, in the early afternoon rumblings from the the thunderstorms over by Wawona in Yosemite could be heard. A while later with the sky getting darker the lighting streaking ever closer to the Lush Meadows area and the thunder shaking the houses, with rain pouring down on some areas, this fire started off of Triangle and about Darrah Rd. Within about two hours or so CDF had it all mopped up and the fire trucks were heading back to the stations. The lighning apparently blew out my DSL Modem, so I am back to dial up, oh my, I forgot how teeth wrenching slow it is, pages take forever to load, it is hard to open multiple web pages at once. It has taken me about one extra hour just to update the homepage. No I love DSl, just wish it was a little cheaper STI has a slower speed DSl on their web page they advertise for I think $30.00 a month that is about five times faster than dial- up. West Nile is really hitting the Central Valley and it is only a matter of time before it strikes harder in the foothills. And I do not know what kind of spraying could be done, unless they use helicopters or planes, or even if they have the budgets to pay for it. So our best defense is to dump all standing water if possible on your property and in the early evening and morning hours to wear some sort of spray to kill the mosquitoes. And if you feel sick to seek treatment as early as possible. |

Hi Jerry, we have recently bought a house in Lush Meadows. I found your site and see there is quite a bit from that area. We are pretty close to Triangle and Darrah just off of Meadow Lane so I was interested to hear the news about the fire. I love the photos of the area. Its great to see new stuff on a daily basis and see how the area changes over the year. Thanks for a great site Richard

Okay, STI says the DSL modem is just fine and now the STI phone company is going to come out and check the lines in the area to see if the lightning strike did some damage to their equipment. In the meantime some of the Live Weather Pictures may be a little out of date and the Weather Page might be a little off with the current weather also. Bear (not a pun) with us as life in the mountains is not always easy. Gas Price Alert: AM PM in Oakhurst on Highway 41 reg $2.73 current as of 8-17-05 |

hi, jerry - i think a little information on how you got the helicopter picture would be interesting. where were you standing? did you drop everything and go over when you saw the smoke? or what? and hello, richard, welcome to mariposa. i guess we missed all the thunder & rain tuesday. we were in visalia. and concerning west nile, i think the best we can hope for, besides your suggestions, is that it gets cold and the skeeters die off. |
