Mariposa Symphony Orchestra Plays At The Close Of The 2005 Mariposa County Fair,Mariposa Photos,Mariposa 2005

Last night as the 2005 Mariposa County Fair came to a close,
the Mariposa Symphony Orchestra brought down the house
with patriotic music as fireworks soared overhead
in the arena.

The weather was very cooperative this year at the Mariposa County Fair.

It was good to see old friends and meet new ones.

Eric, the piccolo player in the middle of this photo gave a fine performance on the last night of the fair.

Bob was also there, and pointed out to me why my weed (that I was going to enter in the fair this year but missed the deadline by two hours) would never have won,as the winning weed must have been 17 or 18 feet tall. Next year I will love and nurture my new little weed when it sprouts and hope it grows tall.

The photos on display by residents of the county were all good to great photos. Our photos will hopefully be on display next year. Timelines and deadlines seem to get the best of us!

Yvonne stole the show with a best in show award,
first place award for her famous Peanut Butter Balls. At one of the next jewelry shows here in the county she will try to have some ready to taste as samples and maybe purchases !!
Her,Jewelry By Yvonne designs garnered a second place and third place award along with three honorable mentions.
Way to go Yvonne :-)

Mr.Tom Philips (The local resident historian in town) told me a story about how the mountains in the town have risen higher and the town has sunk lower in between the mountains just since he has been here. Intrigued with listening to a person with so much knowledge of the area, I wondered how much it has risen and how he knew this (GPS measurements I had assumed), when he told me it was getting harder for him to walk up in the mountains so surely they have grown taller :-)
Good story Tom !

it makes me sad to hear that tom phillips is getting to be so old. oh, i don't care about that, especially, but since he was one of my students at mariposa high, that must mean i'm getting older too!
congratulations to yvonne, and why not email me a sample of her candy? is her jewelry on display anyplace here in town? christmas is coming, you know.
was that bob larson whose weed won? did he have to take it in, or just a picture? you just may have competition next year in that category. i had a 12 foot high sunflower this year, but maybe that's not a weed.
and by the way, the check is in the mail.
