Yesterday while on a gold exploring expedition, the Goldrushcan Crew passed by the Sweetwater Mine that has been around since the 1850's but is now in a state of disarray since Clyde Foster passed away a few years ago. The things people have told me about him clash with the next link with a good story about the area with photos from the past of the mine. http://www.internetcyberplace.com/4WD_TRIPS/may_13_04.htm The area is sure different now with looters and shooters destroying and taking anything of value. With wild sweet peas growing all over the air smells with fragrance as the apples in the trees hang green and golden ready for the picking. This next link has a little more of the history of the mine: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~gtusa/usa/ca/mrp-co/s.htm The next two links are with history of the area but not just the Sweetwater Mine. http://www.yosemitevalleyrailroad.com/NewsPaperAccounts/1911-01-03.html http://www.homestead.com/theclaimpost/CaliforniaGold.html In case you cannot read the memorial it reads as follows: Clyde T. Foster "Sweetwater Clyde" 1911- 2001 It wasn't the gold that he wanted so much as just finding the gold. Future miners as this place you pass turn down an empty glass. As far as we can tell the state now owns this property and is talking about bringing the stamps out of there and making some sort of historical project with them. I wish times were different and we could sit on the porch with this man and listen to the stories that he could tell about the old days as the smell of sweet peas fill the air and the sun sets in the west turning the sky a golden color while visions of gold nuggets dance in front of our eyes. |

Grizzy, here is a photo of the second place weed in the contest. The first place weed was all bent over and hard to imagine it growing straight up. Not a great photo, I guess because the photographer was a little jealous

how can that weed's owner call it a weed? heck, weeds aren't supposed to be in containers and pruned and trained! that weed has obviously had better care than my grapes (which aren't doing ANYTHING this year).
