I remember vividly where I was the morning of 9/11. I was just getting ready to get set up for a day of trading in the market, when I turned on the television at about 6:15 as they talked about a small plane hitting one of the towers. Did not seem like a big deal at that time as they said it was just a small plane, maybe a commuter plane. For some reason I started watching CNN closely, when all of a sudden another plane came into view and smashed into the second tower. This was impossible the brain says but the eyes see things as they are. I then ran to wake up the house to come see what was happening as this terror was just starting to unfold. When the first tower came down it was like a dream that would not go away, and then just awhile later it happened again to the second tower. The horror of the day just kept getting worse. As they closed the airports, the announcers on the news said there were still planes in the air heading to California, outside we headed to listen if a jet was in the area (as we lived in the Central Valley and planes go over all the time as they approach the Bay area). All day we watched, listened, and tried to make sense of what was happening in America. For days we watched as we then learned that terrorism had arrived in America. During those days America lost its innocence of bombings that always seemed to happen far away form our safe haven. Give thanks today for what you have, hug your family if you can, get in the car and visit if that is possible,if not phone your family today. And never let us forget what happened on 9/11. |
