A Bear In Yosemite,Yosemite Photos,Yosemite 2005

Bears in Yosemite ?
Yes, and wherever they are a crowd is
sure to follow. The park rangers had their
hands full as this bear appeared from the underbrush
at the intersection of Highway 120 / 41.
Pedestrians were walking all over the roadway as
people in cars stopped and looked and took photos.

This photo was taken with a zoom lens set at 400mm.
The Goldrushcam crew will go to great lengths to get a photo, but we do have our limits ! Plus the ranger was watching us.

On Summer vacations in Northern Michigan, in the evening hours a great treat for a little guy, was to get into the car and go to the dump and watch the bears rummage around. People were strange as they would get out of their cars for a better photo of the bears. They would get what I would call inside the bears comfort zone and not realize the power of the bears with their paws and claws.

i'm surprised some tourist doesn't try to put his little kid on a bear's back so he can get a picture! if these people could see what a bear can do to a chicken coop, they wouldn't be quite so brave.

did you know that yosemite used to dump their garbage in the park, and people were encouraged to come watch them in the early evening? it was very popular. this practice was discontinued years ago, fortunately. but some people still feed them.

No I did not know that they fed the bears in Yosemite, Grizzy. Ah, the good old days without seat belts in the car, kids sleeping all over the back seat and next to the back glass,
no bike helmets, merry go rounds in the park all made of heavy duty metal so you could not break it,and on and on. How did we survive?

And yes people still feed them. In the paper last year it mentioned that people were petting them even!!
Then a cub jumped on that boy scout from behind to get into his backpack, and they had to destroy the cub,how sad.

At Yosemite Railroad over by Fish Camp, they have an old time photo in there of people touching the bears.
