Yesterday as the Goldrushcam Crew Gold Miners were traveling on the forest service roads between Midpines and the Jerseydale area, (exact location cannot be revealed, you know how us gold miners are ) we came upon these blackberry vines that were just covered with ladybugs. Even the ground was in motion with ladybugs. Never have we seen so many ladybugs ! Where they are the rest of the year I will never know. A quick search of Yahoo notes that they mate in the Spring and hibernate in the winter. Well if this is true, they must stay warm by body insulation !

On one of the unmarked forest roads we were on yesterday, a small fire (lightning caused) was burning with no one around to put it out. So we marked our mileage on the odometer and figured if we saw someone with maybe a cell phone or something they could call this fire in. A little nerve wracking to be out there with a fire and nobody around. As we sat there and figured out what else we could do, a plane circles overhead and spots the fire, about forty minutes later here comes the Hot Shots fire team of two guys and then a little later a truck rolls by with about seven to ten men inside. I do not know how there trucks make it on some of those roads. Later in the day they went back past us, telling us the fire was out. It sure is good that we have these young men willing to risk there lives to fight these fires. |

Bob has sent another photos of his hummingbirds. When should the feeders be removed so they can migrate is now the question ?
