No photos were allowed inside the Roundhouse during the spiritual dancing as the Indians danced and sang songs of the past. A fire was burning in the middle as sage smoldered next to the fire giving the air a very fragrant odor. The musicians using traditional Indian instruments brought up the volume as the tempo increased inside the Roundhouse. The male dancers dressed in a fashion that is passed down through the generations had movements very similar to how a bird moves its head around as it scans its surroundings. This was a very moving experience to witness this event. With so many of our body senses being stimulated at the same time a peaceful feeling came over us as the dance wound down and the Indian dancers danced out the door. Leaving this event, I had but one question. One wonders if the American lifestyle most of us strive for as we are bombarded by ads telling us what we should have and buy and act like is actually bringing us down the wrong path in life? |
