Here's a view of the high country from last week from Glacier Point, with Clouds Rest looming a thousand feet over Half Dome.

Morning Grizzy, at nine this morning we have .33 inch of rain and 49 degrees. Thanks for the luck on the gold. The Goldrushcam Crew went up past Jackson yesterday morning for dredging and luck of the Irish it was raining up there giving us a beautiful sunrise rainbow showing us where the gold was! All day it rained off and on, more often on than off! Finally to scare us at about five in the evening, it started to hail on us. Kind of spooky when you are back on a very remote forest road without a four wheel drive. We dredged all day though and hopefully when we pan it all back down it will make the day well worth it. I really found out how hard granite is after slipping and becoming real close friends with a smooth leaf covered block of rock. Today is a Advil day ! And I swear everything is sore. Arms ,back, and my leg has this just gorgeous purple color to it! One of the other Crew members was in the water all day, how I do not know, as the water felt like snow melt to me. Put the powerful lure of gold can make even the sanest of men a little crazy! |

Thanks for the photo post Keith. Just beautiful cloud cover. Have you hiked to those peaks way in the background of the photo? You must have heard about the rockslide in Yosemite. We just had a geology tour up there and part of the info was on that last big rockslide they had a few years back. I guess it is always good to keep an eye on what is happening above you. Here are a couple of links to read about rockfalls in Yosemite: http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1999/ofr-99-0385/ http://landslides.usgs.gov/recent/archives/1999yosemite.php

wow - what a great crop of news! and too bad about your crash on the rocks. i've been there! you're right about keith's photo - that is 100% beautiful. you were talking about rockfalls - the beach that rob and i used to go to, when we lived in the park, has been totally changed by rockfalls. it's called "steamboat." ever hear of it? |

Yes Grizzy, I've been hiking backpacking and skiing in the Yosemite high country since our honeymoon in '62. Here's a pic of me after going up Columbia Finger, near Cathedral Pass, a few weeks ago. This whole area is easy to get to and has fantastic cross country hiking" Echo Peaks, Tressider Peak, Cathedral Peak, Budd Lake, and more.
