Golden Colored Calf Blends In With Surroundings,Mariposa Photos,Mariposa 2005

Nature at work.
This little calf born in the lower foothills
of Mariposa County has a fighting chance
of survival because of it's color.
When sleeping, a coyote would never
see the little calf as it blends in so well
with the surrounding countryside !

Last Saturday the Mariposa Gem and Mineral Club were out collecting Chiastolite or Cross rocks. If you know where to look they are literally laying all over the place. Tumbled and polished up and made into earrings with a gold flake put in the center they are very nice and very different to own.
The above photo gives a hint on where they are located !
The little calf in the photo would never have had his picture taken had he not moved his head to look at me. He was blended in so good with the dryed grass I guess only his Momma knew where he was !
