Red Barn In Foresta,Yosemite Photos,Yosemite 2005

This is one of the two red barns that can be seen from
the Highway 120 (Big Oak Flat Rd.) as you drive
down into Yosemite Valley.
It is located in Foresta, a private village in
Yosemite National Park that was devastated
by the A-Rock Fire of 1990 that burned
over 16,000 acres in Yosemite.
The lasting effects of the fire are still very
evident today as the above photo shows
in the background.

When this fire started, the forest floor had grown too thick with underbrush over the years because of fire suppression so it burned very hot destroying all the trees in the area.
It will take many years for the trees to grow back and make this a very beautiful tree filled area again.
The low lying bushes have grown back giving habitat to many forest animals and birds that hide or feed off of the growing chapparral.
