Just where can you find these rocks in Mariposa County ? E-mail the Goldrushcam or go into the Mariposa Gem and Mineral Club Store on Seventh Street in Mariposa and ask one of the volunteer workers. The cross in the rocks comes from a carbon inclusion in the rock as it was formed. These rocks can be polished up and made into jewelry. Here is a hint on where they are. The photo is looking West.

Any ideas on how to get the birds to find the bird feeder for the live camera? It is mounted up high on the house. They peck and peck at the ground underneath it. We still have the hummingbirds flying around, maybe I should put that one back up ? |

there are various theories on hummingbirds - if they are still around, you gotta feed them - there's not much else for them. but one theory says, "they wouldn't still be around if you HADN'T fed them earlier." so i don't know, and i don't know how to find out, other than to ask people and they ALL have different ideas. as for the "ordinary birds," we had our feeders up for about a month before the little birdbrains finally found them. now they're devoted. if your birds peck at the ground, put some seed on the ground and maybe one day, one of them will look up and catch on! now, back to your rock picture - really neat! looks as though it's down in the hornitos area. |
