The above photo was taken three days ago on a gorgeous sun shine filled day in Yosemite. The lens used was 16-35mm Canon l lens set at 16mm giving a wider perspective of the valley showing the talus slopes on the left or North side of the valley. The talus slopes cannot be on a angle greater than 40 degrees, greater than that and everything just rolls down to the bottom of the mountain. The trail to Inspiration Point starts at Tunnel View. Not to soon after hiking up the trail the noises of the tour busses and autos start to fade away as you climb higher and higher. After awhile the quietness of the mountains take over with just the sound of boots crunching fresh fallen snow underneath. Occasionally a bird will fly between the branches disturbing the silence. Snow laden branches will bend under the weight and release their white load to the ground below giving out a muffled sound. The quietness of the mountains are one of the things that first struck me after moving up out of the Central Valley. Friends would come by and say why did you move up here? And I would tell them to just stop for a moment and listen to the sounds of the mountains. I do not know the decibel background noise of cities but I am sure we eventually do not even hear it as it just blends in with everything else, until we get somewhere where it is very quiet where you can almost feel how quiet it is and a falling leaf or forbid a heavy acorn falls to the ground calling your atterntion to it. |
