As dusk descended on the valley and the glow of the setting sun disappeared off of Half Dome the darkness arrives in the valley very fast unless you look straight up into the sky where the colors of the setting sun still appear. While walking back to the car, the welcome sign at Curry Village was lit up with old fashioned light bulbs not some new fangled blinking on and off LED lights, giving a warm and welcoming atmosphere to the area. This photo was taken with a 16 - 35mm lens set at 16mm, 2.8 f-stop with the ISO pushed to 800 and hand held at 1/10 second. Pushing the "film" with higher ISO's with little result of digital noise is amazing in these Canon cameras. A tripod would have added a little sharper photo, but by the time it was set up the color of the sky might have disappeared forever !! |

Do you get all warm inside as Chevron reports record profits of over 4,000,000,000.00 for three months as you stand outside your vehicle pumping fuel that has kept increasing in price again? Do you get all warm inside with the announcement in yesterday's news that the gap between rich and poor is growing at the fastest rate ever ? Do you care? Just some thoughts after reading about Chevron today and putting fuel in yesterday in Oakurst at $2.48 a gallon then driving into Mariposa and looking at the stations pumping regular for almost $2.70 a gallon and premium bumping $3.00 a gallon. And it is still a long way from the summer time increase in prices !
