The above photo was taken with a telephoto lens set at 100mm,so it is a zoomed in photo of Yosemite. But the park can still be seen with just your eyes, but lenses do help Here is a photo from about the same area taken a few months ago at dusk with a zoom lens set at 400mm. http://www.goldrushcam.com/discus/messages/776/808.html Notice the trees in the last ridge for perspective. |

Another beautiful day on tap for today as we are in the 60's already. Time to get out and find some crystals before the ground is so hard you need dynamite to get to them, as no rain is in the forecast for awhile. Mariposa County is loaded with quarts crystals in certain areas. The biggest I have personally seen and felt was about two feet long and maybe that around with green moss deep inside of it. A beautiful crystal taken from the South Diltz Mine. Also the State Mineral Museum in Mariposa has some specimens of quartz that are just as gorgeous as they are huge. Sometimes you can find them right on top of the ground after the winter rains have washed the soil away from the crystals. But usually digging on the iron laden red soiled ground is required. Now is a good time also before the snakes come out and tickle your feet. Maybe with this weather there are already some out and about. |
