Bald Rock in Mariposa County,California

Bald Rock in Mariposa County as seen
from the Ponderosa Basin area was frozen
yesterday morning as very cold snow
pellets from a early morning rain / snow froze
to the exposed landmark.

With Bald Rock at about 6,500 feet of elevation covered in the frozen mixture, down at our elevation 3317 feet we had 'Graupel' which is frozen snow pellets. Just nature's way of saying goodbye we hope !!

A long time Golrushcam reader sent me this message knowing I am and some of our readers are avid rockhounder's. It is about the death of Frederick H. Pough who wrote the book, "A Field Guide to Rocks and Minerals" at the ripe age of 99.
