Oliver Fire And State Fire News: Fire Fact Sheets July 5, 2008

Have you ever wondered why it is that Republicans are able to raise so much money for their political campaigns?   To understand, one must consider what they do once they get into power.
James Heth - Money And Republicans

What a simply fabulous 4th
of July this year as the high temps were in the 80 degree range. A few degrees warm- up today but the BBQ in Coulterville and then the Concert in Mariposa should be a comfortable time as far as the weather is concerned.
But watch out next week as the high temps head into the 100's as we run 10-15 degrees over normal for this time of year!
For what is happening in the area this weekend:
Out And About Weekend Edition Covering Yosemite National Park, Mariposa, Eastern Madera County, Tuolumne County and Calaveras County

From the Email Bin:
Why does the County want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a new Caterpillar when the landfill is close to capacity?
Good question, come to the BOS on Tuesday and ask them!

From Kiwanis:
Due to large fires in Mariposa County, the Fire Fighters are "staging" at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.  Therefore, the Mariposa Kiwanis Club and the Mariposa Parks & Recreation Department are forced to postpone the July Celebration to Satuday, July 26.  The event will be a Summer Carnival (with Food and Fun) beginning at noon, followed by entertainment and the evening culminating with Fireworks.

Summer in Yosemite!
The waterfalls are still flowing and everything is green as early summer in Yosemite National Park is gorgeous this time of year. To cool off head to the high country where at 9,000-10,000 feet in can be over 20 degrees cooler!
Thanks to a Yosemite Traveler for this photo today.

Mariposa Life:

Last weeks approval, by the
vote of 4-1 (Supervisor Bibby dissenting because of concerns for the budget and the passage of the Fire Truck issue), needs some discussion.
TOURISM AND MARIPOSA COUNTY ECONOMIC VITALITY

You will read about this here in the Sierra Sun Times and nowhere else. Last Tuesday, first agenda item before the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors, was a discussion concerning the re-licensing process for the power generation plant at Exchequer Dam...
Critical Issue

In roughly two weeks, citizens of Mariposa County will start to set the course of government in this county for the next four years.
There is no competition in District 5 as retired Sheriff Jim Allen...
Please Vote

About 1948, the State of California informed Mariposa County that it should begin developing a General Plan. Court decisions had determined that land use planning was a state, not Federal, responsibility. HOW WE GOT TO THIS POINT IN TIME
