Mariposa County Board Of Supervisors Meeting
Selected Highlights For November 28, 2006

The Fire Chief for Mariposa County was probably picked in a special closed session meeting that the Board of Supervisors had. After the meeting according to Lyle Turpin, District Two Supervisor, lturpin@mariposacounty.org we still cannot be told who has the position of Fire Chief.

Before the board went into closed session the board agreed on a few items.

The new owners of the Greeley Hill Market was given the go ahead to apply for an off sale beer and wine license for a store that will serve the residents of the Greeley Hill area.

The County is applying for a grant ($70K) that will study the water drainage in the towns of Mariposa and Coulterville. The county will have to kick in some funds in order to get this grant.

We wonder if these two towns now have a water drainage problem ? Or will have in the future?

Total Waste Management Systems and Fiske Sanitary Disposal Service asked for and was granted a raise of 3.6 %  for services provided by them to the county.
The figure was obtained by the Consumer Price Index as rising this much and so they are just keeping even with inflation in their rates.

*(With a quick check on the Consumer Price Index Home Page we cannot find this inflation number. The CPI since last October is 1.3%).
November has not been released yet.

! Update !
12-13-06

With further information provided by MPUD,
on the Total Waste Management and Fiske Sanitary Disposal Service contract, the CPI
used was from Feb. 2005 - Feb. 2006. As the contract was signed
in March 2001 both sides decided to use the
CPI figures from February every year. Thanks
to Carl Casey, Public Works Administrator
 for Mariposa County for clearing
this matter up.

The Mariposa County Sign Ordinance is undergoing some changes .
Right now no signs are permitted on county property.
Period.
The changes that are being made will let groups or individuals approach the Board of Supervisors with $125.00 in hand for an application to put a sign up on county property.
Someone will have to go look at the location and see if any liability could be involved by the sign.
This has many applications from weekend yard sale signs, to pancake breakfast signs to civic group signs.
Supervisor Lyle Turpin was very concerned about this sign ordinance and how much staff time it will take up and the enforcement of it.

This will be very interesting to watch play out over time.

Finally the Mariposa County Assessor -Recorder, Bob Lowrimore received a Resolution and a Tile Plaque as he retires from the county.
Mr. Lowrimore started work for the county in 2001 on April 1st.,so he put in 5 years and 8 months.

The Assessor - Recorder positions wages have increased from $61,660 in the budget year 2004-05 to $73,542 for budget year 2006-07.
That is a $11,942  raise in three years.
That is a 19 % raise in three years.
The retirement benefits in Mariposa County are based on the highest year salary with a minimum of five years employment.

And in a final note. The budget for the roads was cut $300,000 this year.
