Mariposa's only daily updated online newspaper, Free and no registration required

The 2006 Mariposa Deputy Sheriff Association - Shop With A Cop - day took place on Wednesday December 13, 2006 as a caravan of seventeen sheriff vehicles, Highway Patrol Vehicles, CDF and other associated vehicles made their way down Highway 140 to the Wal Mart in Merced, California.

Twenty children from kindergarten age to fifth grade made the way down the hill from Mariposa to Merced. Everyone had a list in their hands of presents to get for family members.

The children are shopping off of a list for toys for their own family that will be opened on Christmas Day at their house.

Shoppers in Wal Mart would walk up and donate money to the program as the children wandered thru the store looking for that special gift.

The children are also told to pick out one special present for their "Special Friend ". This present ends up being a nice surprise on Christmas morning for all the hard work they had done shopping for other family members as it comes back to them !

Wal Mart workers then work feverishly to wrap all the gifts so the children do not have to !

Wal-Mart, on top of their already low discount prices gives the program an additional 10% off of the grand total that is spent that day. In the photo a hustling worker squeezes by a smiling deputy.
