| Last week in Mariposa County on Wednesday, August 9th and Thursday, August 10th the Mariposa County Sheriff's
Office, assisted by Yosemite National Park Rangers, Sierra National Forest, Stanislaus National Forest, B.L.M., Mariposa
County Probation, State Parole and California Department of Justice C.A.M.P. Conducted three raids into wilderness marijuana
gardens located in the Merced River Canyon, near the community of El Portal, Mariposa County. 5,517 marijuana plants were
eradicated from Feliciana Creek, 2,807 marijuana plants were eradicated from Sweet Water Creek and 4,127 marijuana plants were
eradicated from Cranberry Gulch. Two firearms, a Glock handgun, loaded with hollow points, and a 12-gauge shotgun were
collected from the grower's camp sites.
In all, a total of 12,451 marijuana plants were confiscated from the illegal and dangerous grow sites located on Public
Land, both in the Sierra National Forest and the Stanislaus National Forest. This drug seizure equates to an estimated $37
million of marijuana.
Once in the gardens, the law enforcement contact and arrest raid teams were then complimented by DOJ CAMP teams to
eradicate the marijuana and remove the many sling loads of cut marijuana to Highway 140 via helicopter.
As noted, local, state and federal agencies assisted with these investigations. The heat of the afternoon , combined with
the steep and rocky terrain created a difficult environment to work in, however, nobody received major injuries during the two
day operation.
These investigations are continuing.
