Mariposa County Fair

The Mariposa County Fair Exhibitor Handbook is out and not a lot of time is left as entry forms have to back in by Saturday, August 5th, 2006  5:00PM

The books can be picked up at the fairgrounds.

The theme for the Mariposa County Fair this year is 'A Timeless Tradition '.
Fair Days will run from September 1st - 4th, 2006.

Special Contests at this years fair will be:
On Saturday, September 2nd a Cow Chip Throwing Contest will have contestants competing in who can throw the chip the farthest.

On Sunday, September 3rd a Cow and Husband Calling Contest entertains the audience followed by a Diaper Derby that will be limited to 28 babies. The day ends with a Tricycle Race for 2,3,4, and 5 year olds with each age group limited to 16 contestants.

The last day of the fair will consist of a Nimble Fingers Knit and Crochet Contest with all materials provided and a cash award of $10.00, $5.00 and $2.50.
Later in the day a Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest will be held with adult and child divisions. Also in the day will be a Amateur Showmanship Contest at the Sheep Barn where fairgoers will try their hand at sheep showmanship. All participants in different age groups will  be presented with ribbons.

All new at the fair this year will be a "Family Fun Night" on Friday September 1st, starting at 6.00 PM in the Gold Bowl Arena, with free admission to the Gold Bowl.
Events will include a 'Stick Horse Race' for 3 and 4 year olds which is limited to the first ten kids in each age group. A 'Terrifying Barnyard Scramble' will have these kids from  five to ten years old scrambling to catch barnyard animals that they will keep ! Limited  to the first 20 kids who sign up.
Also a 'Ultimate Cowboy Contest' will be held where you must be at least 18 years old. This event is limited to ten entries on a first come first served basis.
To be the 'Ultimate Cowboy' one must stack eight bales of hay, put three metal posts into the ground, run across the arena carrying a saddle, drive a few fencing nails into a board and finally run to the beer garden finish line in the fastest time.
The winner will get a $100.00 check. No entry fees for the above listed events but sign up today to be in the contests !

The admission prices for this years fair will be $7.00 for adult daily entrance, adult season pass is priced at $20.00. A child daily entrance is $4.00 and a season pass in $8.00.
Carnival pre-sale tickets are $14.00 for a booklet and a Wristband good only for Monday September 4th for $18.00.

The Mariposa County Fair is located at 5007 Fairgrounds Rd.
