For A List Of The Featured Artists 2007 |
Sierra Art Trails 2007 is the fifth annual fine art studio tour focused on communities in Eastern Madera and Mariposa counties. The event will take place Saturday and Sunday, October 13th and 14th from 10 AM to 6 PM each day. The show, which features the work of 130 of the finest artists and artisans, will be on display in locations throughout the area. There will be various studios, homes and art galleries in over 50 sites. Artwork work will also be for sale, just in time for holiday shopping. We have 40 artists in Mariposa alone, showing at 14 Mariposa sites. The communities covered by this year’s show will Mariposa, Cathy’s Valley, Ahwahnee, Oakhurst, Bas Lake, North Fork, Coarsegold, Yosemite Lakes Park and places in between. This open studio tour gives art enthusiasts the chance to see fine art and fine crafts in the making and the opportunity to get a first hand view of how the artists live and work. Some of the media included in this years show include painting, photography, jewelry, sculpture, fiber arts, wood carving and turning, gourd art, ceramics, boat building and more! Visitors who purchase the colorful tour catalog will receive a detailed map that will guide them to the various viewing locations through the foothills. One of these exceptional artists from Mariposa is Ken Webster. He won 1st place three years ago in the Mariposa County Fair. This was shortly after moving to our community. Since then Ken won an award in the Yosemite Western Artist Show and also an award in the Northern California Society of Art in Miniature International Exhibition. He has also been a participant in the prestigious Yosemite Renaissance XXI show. Ken studied art at the Pratt Institute in New York, and he says he was a student of Maitland Graves, where he found one of his great loves: portrait painting. Besides his artwork, Ken also had a career as an advertising art director in San Francisco. Now he does lots of plein aire work mixed with anything that catches his fancy in his studio. He says, “I paint what moves me regardless of the subject.” Plan on taking this two-day adventure this fall. Follow the trail and find the “pot-of-gold” which will thrill you and give you a truly enriching experience.
