Mariposa County Board Of Supervisors Meeting
Selected Highlights For August, 22, 2006

Dr. Mosher,  Health Officer for Mariposa County gave an update on Assembly Bill 885 ( Onsite Sewage Disposal Systems ) that is winding it's way through the California Legislature.

In essence Dr. Mosher stated through diagrams that a lot of new septics in Mariposa County could be required to be engineered systems costing up to $15,000 if this bill gets passed. A standard system now costs between $3-4,000. Also Dr. Mosher stated that this system has worked for many years in Mariposa County without any problems.
He went on to state that some land divisions could be held up by this bill requiring engineered systems to be installed.
Dr. Mosher power pointed some graphs showing the difference between the two systems and  how much more costly and required maintenance needed by the more expensive system.

Dr.Mosher also gave an informational talk on having a Pandemic Flu Exercise this October to put everyone through a drill on what to do if a Public Health Emergency occurred.
The funding through this would all be paid with grant money and the county would be out no money for this exercise he stated.

Our only concern with this is that Dr.Mosher stated that if this emergency was for a flu like virus, that probably there would only be enough vaccine for 10% of the population of Mariposa County. Let's see: About 18,000 residents of the county divided by 10% equals 180 people !
Who gets the say on who gets the vaccine and who has to go home sick ?

For the following actions all board members were present except Supervisor Bibby who had a family emergency to attend  to.

The board denied an appeal by a Hunters Valley Road resident
that she should be allowed to stay on her property more than 14 nights out of every 90 days since she has an agricultural operation going on at that location.
They stated that no camping is allowed past that time limit in the county no matter if the land is being used for ag purposes.
They also stated that a junkyard in the county is prohibited.
Also that no living in a RV is allowed past that above mentioned time limit unless a house is being built on the property.

A new road name was established in Mariposa
County !

Dusty Rose lane off of  Usona Rd. is the location of the new road.
Two families could not quite come to an agreement on the new road created by an easement, so the Board Of Supervisors created the name by combining elements of what one of the owners who was at the meeting wanted.

The Supervisors also agreed to spend $130,000 of Prop 40 funds  for improvements at Red Cloud and Coulterville parks. With this amount of money we should see some nice looking parks over in that area of the county.

The Mariposa County Librarian, Jacque Meriam, gave a Power Point demo on the library system in Mariposa County which was very informative. One of the highlights being that Ancestry. COM is available at the library for free  if you visit the library. Also a vast reference system is available online;
