Supervisor Dianne Fritz Presents a Letter of Recognition to Lee Ekland of Mariposa (left in the photo) and
John Derby owner of Mid Valley Publications. |
| John Derby of Mid Valley Publications, which includes the Hilmar Times, Atwater Times, Winton Times,
Merced County Times, Delhi Express, Hughson Chronicle, Waterford News and Denair Dispatch, was given a letter of recognition
by the Mariposa Board of Supervisors for promoting Mariposa by printing a full page ad in his publications for free that was
designed by Mariposa resident Lee Ekland, also for no charge ! County Counsel, Thomas Guarino gave the board an update on the downtown parking district as the county negotiates with all the property owners on a equitable arrangement that benefits the downtown merchants and the owners of the lots. So far only one owner has made a deal with the county as the others hold out for further negotiations. One owner has come forward and said the county has had a free ride on these lots for too long and now should pay the full cost of the lots. Mr. Guarino has tried to explain the financial strain Mariposa County is going through right now because of the rockslide and trying to balance the budget, to the property owners. The owners made it known they were not interested in the board's direction. |
Caltrans is scheduled to be at the next board meeting to discuss the slide situation for a long term
plan. Supervisor Turpin tried to get the board to have a letter made up and sent to Caltrans requesting that Highway 132 between La Grange and Coulterville be widened so that 45 foot busses would be allowed to enter Coulterville from that direction. Currently their is no legal way that these busses can enter Coulterville. The board directed Supervisor Turpin to draft a letter to Caltrans and present it to the board at a future meeting. The general plan update will be open to public comment on October 11th at 9:00 AM and continuing into the evening hours as the public has a chance to comment on the general plan. The board would like any speakers that plan on talking over three minutes to send a letter to the board instead. They also requested that those letters be mailed early so they can give full attention to them. The city planners then hope to have direction by the Board of Supervisors by the end of that night so they can get the plan in writing and on the web for a November meeting and then the final draft given to the board on December 6. |
