ALKO is a rock shop that has been around for a few years--started in 1968 in Carmel. The store was moved to Oakhurst in 1990 and closed in 2003.  Now we do eBay and sell at shows.  The current owners are Jean and Audrey. We are always being asked about the name ALKO.  Jean and her first partner combined their names to make a new one.  When Audrey joined the partnership, it did not make sense to change something that was obviously successful.  We got into selling stone and natural material beads while selling rocks and minerals--seems to blend itself very nicely. 
 
Jean is a very talented artist--although she does not think that she is an artist.  Her creativity has produced more new ideas that have been helpful in boosting the rock business.  She loves to work with wood and gourds as well, so often we'll see creations that use these various other materials.

Audrey has interests in wirewrapping stones items as pendants.  She has her items in a local gallery and is always looking for a new stone or item to wirewrap.  She has started a new craft of fretwork scroll sawing. 
Audrey who is also the President of the Mariposa Gem And Mineral Club gives many hours of volunteer time to make the club a success.
