Mariposa School Bus Tires Slashed

On Monday, September 25, 2006 at about 5:30 a.m., Mariposa County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Ransom investigated vandalism to the Mariposa County Unified School District’s school busses.  Between the hours of 4:30 p.m. yesterday and 5:30 a.m. this morning vandals punctured twenty (20) bus tires.  It appears that a sharp object was used to puncture a hole in the sidewall of each damaged tire.  Seventeen (17) school buses were damaged, most receiving damage to the left front tire, while a few buses received multiple tire damage.   The School District reports that each tire will cost $300.00 to replace, totaling $6000.00 to replace all of the damaged tires.  The damaged buses were parked in the Mariposa bus yard.  This vandalism caused a two hour delay to the school day.  If you have any information that may lead to the identity of the vandal(s) please contact Deputy Jeff Ransom at (209) 966-3615 or (800) 774-8314.
