To The Students Of Mariposa County
Natural disasters unfortunately happen each year all over the world. Last year the hurricanes in the United States and the tsunami in Asia devastated communities. Our own Mariposa Community suffered through the rock slide which closed highway 140 for months. Part of what communities can do to lessen the impact of natural disasters is to be prepared.
For the past year we have been reading about a
world-wide concern about a possible flu epidemic. Thankfully one has not materialized. However in the event a flu epidemic would
occur, the Mariposa County Health Department wants to be prepared. So on Wednesday, October 4 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. county
health officials will be running a “Mock Mass Vaccination Drill”. The Mariposa County Superintendent of Schools would like MMS
and MCHS students to participate in this drill to help county officials learn how to best deal with a possible flu epidemic.
Therefore for students who are interested in supporting this community service endeavor, please do the following:
Take home the letter and the permission slip to your parents. Please have the form signed and returned to your first period
teacher by Monday, October 2.
Pertinent information to be written on the back of the letter:
You will be bused to the fairgrounds in groups of 100 students
Group A will leave class at 11:00 a.m. & return by 12:15 p.m.
Group B will leave class at 12:52 p.m. & return at 2:10 p.m.
Group C will leave class at 1:05 p.m. & will return at 2:25 p.m.
Students will be assigned to groups by the principal
No students will be given an actual vaccine—it is a mock drill.
No students will be penalized for missing class while participating in the drill
No student will miss their lunch break
The first 300 students who are passing all their
classes and who return permission slips will be allowed to participate.
