Bob Shockley
For A List Of The Featured Artists 2007 |
Bob Shockley started drawing constantly in elementary school…instead of paying attention to his studies. Drawing became his passion and filled all of his spare time. During high school he designed his school logo, posters for school events and anything else that the school needed. There was one piece of art that he actually threw away but it was retrieved and ended up in San Francisco and eventually in a magazine. His art was getting noticed, even though at times it was not by intent. During this same time he did a hand carved sculpture that went to the Smithsonian Institute.
After high school I attended Chouinart Art Institute in Los Angeles. During that time San Jose State University commissioned him to design a “semi-truck length” Indian for the big Stanford game. Afterwards, Stanford bought it and put it by one of their buildings.
Bob says, “In my later years I have done fine art, cartooning through a syndicate for publication under the name Plantoons. Now he sells them under the name Smiles in a Box. Bob has shown his work at 34 different shows a year for 4 years but then recently purchased a downtown two story commercial building with his wife and started his current business which is an art gallery, plus home décor and gifts.
This is the second year Bob has shown in Sierra Art Trails
