Sierra Art Trails - October, 2006
Joy McClure
|
Joy McClure, a seasoned artist with Sierra Art Trails, is an outstanding jeweler who is continually exploring new techniques and new methods to bring freshness to her work. She says, “Inspirations for my work come from colors and shapes in nature and contrasts in texture. I am currently increasing my skills in silver-smithing, lost wax casting, and enameling, both in copper and metal clay. My personal goal is to enjoy the process of creating while exploring new techniques and media.”
Joy grew up in a family that valued creativity and handcrafted work. Her college years included jewelry and pottery classes and she graduated with a degree in art with a concentration in ceramics. She started making ceramic beads that she sold through mail order throughout the United States while teaching pottery and weaving classes in Palo Alto. Joy says, “I like my work to be soothing and playful. Inspirations for my work come from playing with materials. My work has always hung in between different media combining fibers, gemstones, glass and metal utilized in jewelry making.”
Joy’s creative expression is innovative and her pieces are one of a kind. It is well worth seeing while enjoying the weekend of Sierra Art Trails.
