Once again Art Trails is proud to feature the remarkable talents of Ann Mendershausen.   She is a ceramic artist extraordinaire.  After teaching for many years, Ann has retired and enjoys experimenting and exploring ever-new directions to create her art.  She misses her students, butsays that she really enjoys spending her time with her art and her garden.  She is creating wonderful and colorful mosaic walls in her new raised bed garden.  Earlier this year she taught a workshop here in Mariposa at a realty company on the  “Art of Selling.”  The participants created a mural, as well as individual sculptures, which allowed business people to stretch their creative side, using unusual materials and bright color. 

Ann says, “Clay is a miraculous medium: born from the earth’s millennia, malleable by hands, transformed by fire, telling tales of the past.  It never ceases to inspire and humble me.  My work often features satirical and whimsical characters, which are the pieces I enjoy the most.”  Based on this, her current inspiration is doing animal sculptures and mosaics.
