"El Mercado" Marketplace A Big Winner
|
By all accounts, "El Mercado" Yard Sale, Bake Sale and BBQ by the Mariposa Pines/Jerseydale Fire Safe Committee on Sat.,
Oct. 14, was a giant success.
Hundreds came to the one-day event held at the Luker Ranch in Mariposa Pines. Everything was double last year's event. From the big trays of homemade cinnamon rolls and coffee at 8:00 am to the cheeseburgers and hot dogs still selling at the 4:00 pm closing, a good time was had by all. The high-end items donated by many generous folks went to eager buyers wanting bargains. The Bake Sale was the biggest ever, with cookies, many kinds of bread and cakes and other items baked by the neighbors. Cal Kazeli won the cord of firewood, donated by Circle 9 Ranch, which was delivered to his home in Ponderosa Basin. Many neighbors contributed to the success of "El Mercado." Marianne Atkins was chairman; Glen Hogue and Steve Jennings were the BBQ chefs; the Bake Sale was run by Jan Hamilton and Mary Jane Jennings; the raffle people were Dusty Luker, Tom Ohmer, Jan Hamilton and Jane Sheldon and many others too numerous to mention. A big thanks to the Mariposa Fire folks for their participation. Dusty and Lu Luker again provided their home for the event. The mission of the Committee is to preserve the natural and man-made resources in the Mariposa Pines/Jerseydale Area by mobilizing the residents to make their homes and neighborhoods fire safe. It is also the intent of the Committee to acquire land, raise money and build a Firehouse/Community Building for the good of the area.
