At the Mariposa County Board Of Supervisors meeting Tuesday:   Marjorie J. Wass, Mariposa Treasurer/Tax Collector/County Clerk was presented a Resolution and Tile Plaque recognizing her years of service to the county. Marjorie thanked everyone she knew that was at the presentation, from the Board of Supervisors to fellow workers and then her family. She then sang the song "Yesterday" but inserted her own very special words that made you laugh and also think about times gone by.
It was a very special way to mark the end of her career with Mariposa County.

The Mariposa Merry Mountain Parade Saturday was rain free as the clouds threatened but no rain fell, although the wind came up under thick cloudy skies and made a cup of hot chocolate very satisfying :)
Thanks Dell !
As usual the parade was very entertaining with Santa Claus also making an appearance.

The Soroptimists Club Annual Christmas Craft Fair at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds ended Saturday afternoon with happy buyers and happy sellers all with smiles on their faces as the Soroptimists put on another great craft fair featuring many local craftspeople displaying their handiwork. Christmas crafts, homemade candles, handmade clothes, custom woodwork, ceramics, custom handcrafted jewelry and much more were available for purchase from the artisans that were there. Old friends and many new friends had a great time telling stories and sharing information as they met at the craft fair. A tip of the hat to the kitchen staff who kept the buyers and sellers fed for the two days. The beef sandwiches were especially good and filling. If you missed it this year, mark your calendars for next year now.

From NPS News:
Yosemite National Park Announces Opening of Tuolumne Area Facilities
Numerous lodging, camping, and recreational opportunities are now open for visitors to Yosemite National Park's glorious high country!
Highways 120 and 41 provide access to all areas within Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite National Park Superintendent Mike Tollefson announced the opening of many Tuolumne area facilities today, June 30, 2006, in time for the July 4th weekend.

The Tioga Road (Highway 120 east), with its views of spectacular granite domes, pristine alpine meadows, and just-peaking wildflowers, offers visitors an incredible day trip or an unforgettable overnight stay. For visitors looking for a true Wilderness experience by foot, the Tuolumne area offers miles of hiking trails which provide an open door to Yosemite's High Sierra.

Among the facilities now open is the Tuolumne Meadows Wilderness Center. The Tuolumne Meadows Visitor Center will open tomorrow for the summer season. It will be open daily from 9am to 6pm. Many area campgrounds including White Wolf, Tamarack Flat, and Crane Flat are now open for the season. Both Tamarack Flat and Crane Flat have first-come, first-served campsites available. Additionally, the Bridalveil Creek campground (located off of the Glacier Point Road) is open and available for first come, first-served campers.

The Tuolumne Meadows Store, the gas station, and Tuolumne Meadows Lodge and the White Wolf Lodge are opening today. Both accommodations also offer meals. Information about lodge accommodations can be found at www.yosemitepark.com.

Many unique and exceptional activities are held yearly in the Tuolumne Meadows area. These include the Parsons Memorial Lodge Summer Series, a series of lectures, art and music shows, interpretive programs, and seminars offered at the historic Parsons Memorial Lodge and the 10th Annual Tuolumne Meadows Poetry Festival. More information about these and other activities offered at the Parsons Memorial Lodge can be found on the web at www.nps.gov/parsons.

Along with the Tioga Pass entrance (Highway 120 east), visitors can access Yosemite National Park from Highway 120 (west) and Highway 41 (south). Highway 140 is closed due to rockslide, but all Mariposa, Midpines, and El Portal area businesses and accommodations are open for business.

For more information, please call the Public Information Office at Yosemite National Park at 209/372-0200, or visit us on the web at www.nps.gov/yose.

With the ending of the month of June we closed out another seasonal weather year.
The year saw 43.77 inches of rain at 3317 feet of elevation. Giving us another above average year. But way below the year before when we had 57 inches of rain !

Every month besides the month of July had measurable rain. While last July we did have a few rain drops it was not a measurable amount.
Last July we had 24 days of 90+ degree temps giving us a daily temperature average of 82.8. A period of July and August gave us 32 days in a row of 90+ degree temps.
With a mild October and November the wood stove was not lit until November 26. There was no recorded snow in December. But February through April brought us over 50 inches of snow.

These amounts and totals were provided by the Goldrushcam / Sierra Sun Times Official Weather Station
owned and maintained by the staff at the Goldrushcam. The Station is a Davis Vantage Pro 2 that uploads weather every few seconds to a computer.
Here is the link to the weather station:
