History Center Starts Year Off with A Successful Gala
The Northern Mariposa County History Center has reopened its doors to the public.  Volunteer Docents are on hand during all hours of operation which are Thursday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to tell you about the new displays.

The Gala, held in early February, was a wonderful success thanks to the hard work of event chairperson, Leslie Farrow, Sierra Treasures coordinator, Lana Jones and the many, many volunteers who helped clean, set up the new displays, donate fantastic baskets, prepare the scrumptious food and do all the other tasks necessary for such an event to run smoothly.  Many thanks to the three local Mariposa County Wineries who donated the terrific wine: Silver Fox Vineyards; Casto Oaks Winery; and Butterfly Creek Winery.  With nearly 200 tickets sold and raising close to $5,000 for the Barrett Room renovation project, the year got off to a great start!

Spring Speaker Series
Three family friendly, exciting presentations are in the works for this spring. They are scheduled for the first Saturday of March, April and May.  All three FREE programs will be held at the Big Table Ranch, a new local event center, located at 5586 Greeley Hill Rd. (2 ½ miles East of Coulterville/4 miles west of Greeley Hill) from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  All three are designed to entertain and educate kids of all ages from 6 to 96!

3 3 18 NMCHC March April May 300On Saturday, March 3rd, Scott Carpenter, Yosemite National Park Archaeologist & Branch Chief of Cultural Resources, will present a fascinating picture of plant, animal and human life in our vicinity as it was some 4,000 years ago.  There will also be musical entertainment compliments of “Cactus Bob” Cole & Chris "Prairie Flower" Stevenson, complete with banjo, fiddle guitar and standup bass!

On Saturday, April 7th, Julia Parker, former Cultural Specialist for Yosemite National Park, will demonstrate her basket-making techniques, share her captivating personal history and, along with other members of her family will also share native songs, crafts and dance.

Then on Saturday, May 5th, Linda Tiegland Clark, will share “true yarns” about Gold Rush era folks who fill the pages of local history.

All three free programs will include period music performed by local musicians and conclude with tasty refreshments.  Donations are always appreciated.

Northern Mariposa County History Center Breakfast

Join the NMCHC For Breakfast!
Monthly on the 2nd Sunday
Top ‘o the Mornin’ to You!  On Sunday, March 11th, Daylight Savings time begins and it’s less than a week before St. Patrick’s Day… so Spring Forward and enjoy a great breakfast at the Coulterville Old Schoolhouse, located at the corner of Broadway and Cemetery Streets.  All you can eat pancakes, eggs cooked the way you want them, bacon or sausage are served from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Adults are $5.00, children just $3.00 and a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) is $15.00.  This is a great bargain for you and an important fund-raiser for the museum!  If you’re an early riser, your assistance helping serve and/or clean up would be gratefully appreciated (just this once or every month)!  Just call the museum at (209) 878-3015 to learn more.

Be sure and check out what’s happening at the museum on the “Northern Mariposa County History Center” Facebook page.  The Northern Mariposa County History Center is a 501c3 private, non-profit charitable organization established in 1976, with the museum opening to the public in 1980.  Displays and historic photos provide an authentic glimpse of the life and times of the pioneers who helped settle the local area in the 1800’s and early 1900’s. This year we are kicking off a capital funds campaign to restore the Frank and Ila Barrett wing, donated to the museum in 2017.
