Heather speaking at a Rotary Candidates Forum on April 26. Heather feels an affinity for the words on the "Four Way Test" displayed behind her.

Bernikoff has been active on a variety of issues that have benefited the public such as leading water education and conservation programs during the drought and working with agriculture supporters and ranchers to address policy decisions that would negatively impact agricultural lands. Through her work on the John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation Board, Bernikoff helped organize health programing for the community, and scholarships for youth. As a partner in Capacity Consulting, Bernikoff provided free workshops led by industry leaders to help local nonprofits amplify the scope and reach of the work they do. She also obtained a grant for the Human Services Department to increase access to healthcare coverage for working people.

“It is rare to have a candidate with such an accomplished background that encompasses topics that are within the responsibilities of a Board Supervisor,” said Janet Bibby, former District 3 Supervisor and member of Bernikoff’s Committee to Elect. “She has done grant work, been in charge of budgets, worked on planning and land use issues and has worked on solving problems for members of the community, such as forcing TDS Telecom to fix non-functional phone lines in her area. Watching budgets and helping the community is what Supervisors are supposed to do.”

HBD3 004 400Heather participated in the second annual Mariposa Clean Sweep community volunteer event on April 28, helping to clean up our lovely town of Mariposa during the Clean Sweep.

Heather grew up in Groveland, just an hour north of Mariposa. After high school, she left the county for college, worked in the Bay Area and Sacramento, and then returned to the foothills to be near family. Public service has been part of her life since she was young, and, as an adult, she chose careers in healthcare and philanthropy for their ability to help people. She lives in the Catheys Valley/Hornitos area on a ranch with her husband. They have been together for 25 years.

“I will work hard, with honesty and integrity, for all District residents,” said Bernikoff. “My work as a Program Officer and Program Director in philanthropy has given me a state and national view of programs that were successful, and those that had challenges. This, along with my personal connections and knowledge of government, will add value to the effort I bring as Supervisor.”

Heather is proud to have the support of former Supervisor Janet Bibby, retired Ag Commissioner Cathi Boze, retired Undersheriff Joel Bibby, UC Professor Teenie Matlock, Community Volunteers Mary Ann Visher, Jill Harry, and Carol Hart among many others.
