Sierra Foothill Charter School is sponsoring a very popular community event in Catheys Valley on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 5 to 8 PM at McCay Hall. All are welcome!
In years past, the event has been called the Sweetheart Dinner.
“We are switching things up just a little bit this year,” said committee chair, Kori Smith. “In addition to continuing the very popular dessert auction, student artwork will also be for sale. So we’ve gone with a play on words and are calling it the “SweetART Dinner”.”
The dinner portion of the event will feature an amazing "Build Your Own Pasta and Salad Bar" ($10 Adult, $5 Child) with delicious options to choose from such as pesto and tomato-sauced pasta, salad greens, and a variety of toppings such as grilled meats and veggies. Dinner can be purchased at the door, and take out is available.
The organizers make no promises, but they are also working with various agencies to see if they might be able to serve beer and wine for those adults who are interested.
The dessert auction will start at 5:30 PM. “Some families are known to bring certain desserts,” says Smith, “and other families want to be sure to bid high enough to get them!” In previous years, desserts sold from $20 to the top sellers of $450 or more.
The children walk around with the desserts during dinner, enticing bidders with their goods—and their personalities.
“Who can resist these children when they smile sweetly and say ‘Wouldn’t you like to bid on this special dessert I made?’” says Smith. “It really is difficult to refuse. The children are a big part of what make this such a successful fundraiser for us.”
The auction will continue until all the desserts are gone.
Community participation is the other part that makes this such a successful event. Not only school families have attended in the past, but the community at large. It’s a great opportunity to say hello to friends and neighbors, have a delicious meal, and support a good cause at the same time. All profits will be used to support programs at Sierra Foothill Charter School.
