5 7 16 health fair smHealth Fair and Teddy Bear Clinic – Public Invited

Spend your Saturday morning in a fun and healthy way, and help JCF kick-off National Hospital Week (May 8-14).  Plan to attend the Health Fair and Teddy Bear Clinic, on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at John C. Fremont Hospital.  The free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Several area businesses and community agencies will be there providing health, wellness, and safety education and information.  The hospital will be providing free health checks including: blood pressure, heart rate check, pulse-ox, and blood sugar testing.

A highlight of the event will be the Teddy Bear Clinic.  Children are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal for a ‘health check-up’.  Nurses will be on hand to admit the patient, perform the health exam, and mend minor lacerations.  The Teddy Bear Clinic provides an interactive simulation of what it’s like to go to the doctor’s office.  This exercise assists in reducing anxiety that sometimes accompanies a child’s visit to the doctor.

Just a few of the scheduled activities include: CPR demonstrations, programs in the Mariposa County Fire Safety House, children’s dental program, healthy snacks, and a flower planting station – children can plant a flower for a Mother’s Day gift.  Some of the participants on site are Mercy EMS staff, Mariposa Sheriff’s Department, SCOPE, Cal Fire, which will provide fire safety information, San Joaquin Drug will be available to answer questions about medications, Mariposa Public Health, Costco Hearing and Optical, and many more.

“The goal of the Health Fair is to show the community the many resources available in and around Mariposa to help them be safe, keep well, and live healthy.  We want to make people of all ages aware that simple, everyday choices may add years to a person’s life,” said Lorna Coci, hospital spokesperson.
