Sierra Foothill Charter School is sponsoring a very popular community event in Catheys Valley on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 6 to 9 PM at McCay Hall.  All are welcome! In years past, the event was called the Sweetheart Dinner, but last year’s event brought a new trend. It’s now called the SweetART Dinner.

“In addition to continuing the very popular dessert auction, last year we started selling student artwork at the event,” said Committee Chair Kori Smith. “So we’ve gone with a play on words and are calling it the “SweetART Dinner”.”

The dinner portion of the event will be catered by the Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort and is sure to be delicious. Dinner can be purchased at the door and take out will be available. Beer and wine will also be available for adults who are interested.

SweetARTLourdes Walker holds out a tasty dessert about to be auctioned as Natalee Marundee peeks from behind.

The dessert auction will start at 6:30 PM.  “Some families are known for bringing certain desserts,” says Smith, “and other families want to be sure to bid high enough to get them! And there’s always plenty of other enticing desserts, too.” In previous years, desserts sold from $20 to the top sellers of $450 or more.

The children walk around with the desserts during dinner, enticing bidders with their goods—and their personalities.

“Who can resist these children when they smile sweetly and say ‘Wouldn’t you like to bid on this special dessert I made?’” says Smith. “It really is difficult to refuse. The children are a big part of what make this such a successful fundraiser for us.”

The auction will continue until all the desserts are gone. Student art work will be on display and on sale throughout the evening as well.

The coming together of community is the other factor that makes this such a successful event. All are invited. This is a great opportunity for community members to say hello to friends and neighbors, have a delicious meal, purchase both fantastic desserts and student art work, and support a good cause all at the same time. All profits will be used to support students and programs at Sierra Foothill Charter School.
