SST LTRJune 19, 2018 - To Our Supervisors, Mariposa County. California.

I write this from a position of lengthy experience in the subject of tourism, having spent 41 years in the tour and travel business right here in California.  The ongoing use of County General funds invested in a bureau that of its own title cannot possibly be of benefit without serious reconsideration over the direction of same funds into more useful purpose:  that of infrastructure improvements and reinvestment into the communities of Mariposa itself.

At the present time, Mariposa township as well as that of Coulterville, Catheys Valley and Hornitos are nothing more than a stopover for refreshment while enroute to our major National Park, Yosemite.  This is especially manifested in the severe drop-off of tourism during the shoulder seasons (fall and spring) as well as our winter months.  First and foremost this tendency must be changed.

The need for infrastructure improvement and investment in each and every one of our townships is glaringly evident.  The county of Mariposa enjoys an historic background unequaled in the entire district covering the so-called "gold country".  In addition it enjoys talent of superior quality, both qualities never recognized nor exploited.  Rather the county displays a measure of neglect that is both shameful and depressing.

I urge that you consider these factors seriously with a view towards final resolution in the disposition of County funds, even on a temporary basis until improvement can and should be made.
