June 15, 2017 - The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued an Excessive Heat Warning, which is in effect from noon Sunday to 11:00 P.M.Tuesday.

The Excessive Heat Watch is no longer in effect.

TEMPERATURES...
Daytime high temperatures between 104 and 110.

TIMING...
Sunday through Tuesday night.

IMPACTS...
Prolonged exposure to these temperatures, especially after a period of unseasonably cool weather, will increase the risk of heat related illnesses. Children, the elderly, and people with chronic ailments are the most susceptible to heat related illness. Heat exhaustion, cramps, or in extreme cases, heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to these conditions. Area waterways are running very cold and fast, increasing the risk for hypothermia, and water rescues. Pets, crops, and livestock may also require extra care through the hot weather.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. Hot temperatures will create a DANGEROUS SITUATION in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
